In "Star Trek Into Darkness," Mary Jo Markey ACE Reworked Klingon Dialogue in Post to Adjust Tone

Mary Jo Markey collaborated with a Klingon language expert to streamline this key action set piece from "Star Trek Into Darkness."   Mary Jo Markey, ACE, is an accomplished editor in both film and television. After cutting a series of independent films and television movies, Markey began her collaboration with JJ Abrams as one of the editors of the TV series "Felicity" during its first three seasons (1998-2000). Markey then moved over to edit the first two seasons of "Alias," during which she received her first Emmy nomination. Later, in 2005, Markey won the Emmy for Drama Series Editing for her work on the "Lost" pilot. In 2006, Markey’s collaboration with JJ Abrams moved to the large screen with "Mission Impossible III." Over the Christmas break we learned of the passing of Editor Jerry Greenberg. We fondly recall having Jerry on our first feature panel for our “Sight, Sound & Story” series back in 2013. The panel was entitled “New York in the ’70s: NYC Legends Discuss their Work and their Favorite Moments from this Revolutionary Era in American Cinema.” We were delighted to have him join editors Alan Heim, ACE, Susan Morse, ACE, Bill Pankow, ACE and moderator/writer Bobbie O’Steen to lend insight into that historical and magical period of New York City filmmaking. He began his career as an editor on documentary series, such as VH1's Behind the Music and ESPN's "SportsCentury." He moved on to such blockbuster reality shows as "American Idol," "The Bachelor" and its spin-off "The Bachelorette." In 2006, he began editing episodic dramas, such as "Alias," "Battlestar Galactica" and "FlashForward." MEWShop Welcomes Editor Allyson C. Johnson as Our November 2017 Artist in Residence!

MEWShop is proud to welcome editor  Allyson C. Johnson  as our Artist in Residence for our November/December 2017 Six Week Intensive Art of Editing Workshop. Allyson C. Johnson’s Feature Film work includes: Mira Nair’s “Amelia,” ”The Namesake,” “Vanity Fair” and “Monsoon Wedding” which received the Golden Lion for Best Film at the 2001 Venice Film.  Her television work includes NBC’s “Smash” and “The Slap,’ “The Wire,” “Quantico” and “Marco Polo” for Netflix.  She is currently editing Baz Luhrmann’s series “The Get Down” for Netflix.  Johnson received an Emmy Nomination editing the documentary “The Who’s Tommy: The Amazing Journey.”  Other rockumentaries include “Up From the Underground” (Quincy Jones), "Say It Loud" (VH-1) and her Triptych short film “Kick Out the Jams” appeared at the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum.  She has also collaborated with such filmmakers as Spike Lee and Griffin Dunne and Bill Moyers.  For more ...

An Interview with "E.T." editor Carol Littleton, ACE

Carol Littleton's body of work as an editor spans several decades and genres, from the 1970s to the present. She's perhaps best known for her collaborations with Steven Spielberg and Lawrence Kasdan, on films including E.T., The Big Chill, and The Manchurian Candidate , and was nominated for an Academy Award for her work on E.T.  MEWShop's Director of Education Janet Dalton, talked to her about her early career and how studying literature made her a stronger editor.
