Remembering Legendary Editor Jerry Greenberg, ACE

Over the Christmas break we learned of the passing of Editor Jerry Greenberg. We fondly recall having Jerry on our first feature panel for our “Sight, Sound & Story” series back in 2013. The panel was entitled “New York in the ’70s: NYC Legends Discuss their Work and their Favorite Moments from this Revolutionary Era in American Cinema.” We were delighted to have him join editors Alan Heim, ACE, Susan Morse, ACE, Bill Pankow, ACE and moderator/writer Bobbie O’Steen to lend insight into that historical and magical period of New York City filmmaking. Starting in 1982 Eugene Gearty was one of the first digital Sound Editor/Designers in the film industry. He pioneered the use of the access and the Synclavier systems for use in creating and editing sound effects for movies such as "Silence of the Lambs," "Do The Right Thing," "Men in Black," and "The Hudsucker Proxy." He has worked with many New York directors including Joel & Ethan Coen , Jim Jaramusch and Lee Daniels. He has been nominated for an Academy Award 3 times and won an Oscar for "Hugo." He has won the Golden Lion (Taiwan) and the Hong Kong “Oscar"(China) for "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon."
