Jay Rabinowitz, A.C.E. started out as a cinema studies major at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and soon discovered a passion and talent for editing. Fresh out of school, he had the opportunity to be an apprentice editor on “Down by Law” directed by another NYU graduate, Jim Jarmusch. Rabinowitz became a full-fledged editor on “Night on Earth” and, since then, has worked on every Jarmusch film. Early on, he also impressed director Barry Levinson with his ability to convey the edgy style of the groundbreaking TV series “Homicide”, then went on to work on films with directors such as Paul Schrader (“Affliction”), Darren Aronofsky (“Requiem for a Dream,” “The Fountain”), Curtis Hanson (“8 Mile”) Frank Oz (“Stepford Wives”), Todd Haynes (“I’m Not There”), and most recently Oren Braverman (“Rampart”) and Terrence Malick (“Tree of Life”). Throughout his career, Rabinowitz has traveled easily between both the independent and major studio worlds - and among an unusually diverse group of directors, showing a remarkable ability to artfully interpret and shape their distinctive visions.
Bobbie O’Steen studied film and earned a degree in anthropology at Stanford University. She is an Emmy-nominated film editor and the author of two acclaimed books about editing: “Cut to the Chase”, based on interviews with her late husband and colleague Sam O'Steen, and “The Invisible Cut”, which deconstructs classic movie scenes through a cut-by-cut analysis. In the last few years she has hosted events honoring master editors such as Carol Littleton and Craig McKay at UCLA Film and Television Archive, 92Y Tribeca and Emerson College and recently partnered with Manhattan Edit Workshop to create a series called “Inside the Cutting Room.” O’Steen moderates panels bi-annually for EditFest LA and EditFest NY and teaches graduate student workshops at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is also a regular contributor to CinemaEditor, Editors Guild Magazine and MovieMaker Magazine. In all of her work, O’Steen’s goal is to create a deeper understanding and appreciation for the editor’s invisible art for film students, professionals and moviegoers everywhere.
